The march will assemble in the parking lot across from the train station in downtown Fredericksburg at 12:30 PM, leave at 1:00 Pm and proceed to Freedom Park on Washington Avenue, where speeches and ceremony will begin at 2:00 PM.
Those who can not make the march can drive to the park. Parking is allowed on both sides of Washington Avenue. Those who attended last year said it was a great way to celebrate our religious freedom.
The event commemorates the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom, drafted by Thomas Jefferson in 1777 in Fredericksburg.
The ceremony itself should last about an hour.

Comment by Mary Weaver Mann on January 8, 2011 at 10:34pm Considering that Christians have been killed at Mass by gunfire, burned alive in Christian churches in India and Africa, the least we can do is appreciate our opportunity here to worship God as we choose.

Comment by Carolyn L. Knesel on January 7, 2011 at 7:45pm An announcement of this event appears in today's Free Lance-Star. 2011 Religious Freedom Day March
This commemorative march sponsored by the Rappahannock Assembly of the Knights of Columbus has been going on for quite a few years, but many of us were never aware of it. Last year, it came to the FredVAPats' attention when our organization was operating on the Meet Up website. Quite a few of our members participated in the actual walk through downtown; some rode the free trolley, and still more members met the marchers at the monument site for the impressive ceremony.
It is disappointing to me that, out of a FVP membership of 316, we cannot muster a larger contingent of patriots to participate in this important event. I realize that January is cold, that people have busy schedules, that walking through downtown Fredericksburg from the train station to Monument Avenue is quite a hike, etc…BUT, I tell you…you will feel well-rewarded for your efforts if you participate!
So, please, take another look at your calendar for this weekend. The forecast is for a high of 37 degrees with sunny skies and a breeze. The breeze will keep the many beautiful flags unfurled and waving, the sun will lift your spirits, and if you bundle up, you’ll be able to withstand the chill factor! I hope to see some more RSVP responses – you have a choice of WILL ATTEND, WILL NOT ATTEND, or MIGHT ATTEND – just let us know one way or another so that we know you are aware of the event.
A final note…I posted many pictures from last year’s march. To view them, choose PHOTOS from the ribbon that runs under the FVP banner on the main page. Under ALL ALBUMS (61), there is a search box – enter “2010_VA RELIGIOUS FREEDOM DAY” (no quotes) - the album will pop up. You may view them as a slide show or individually by using the NEXT and PREVIOUS arrows. Take a look to get inspired to attend this year’s parade and ceremony.
Grab those mittens and gloves, mufflers and earmuffs, hats and overcoats, fur-lined boots or sturdy shoes. Tell your friends and neighbors - tell everyone you know. And Y’ALL COME ON DOWN…we’ll be lookin’ for ya!
