We Can't All Be Washingtons, But We Can All Be Patriots!
The FAVC is comprised of numerous organizations that support the local veteran and military community in the city of Fredericksburg and counties of Caroline, King George, Orange, Spotsylvania, and Stafford. Originally formed to raise funds for, build, and maintain the Fredericksburg Memorial to Fallen Heroes, the FAVC has recently undergone an extensive review of its configuration and policies, which was completed in March 2015. That month, the FVP was the first organization to apply for and to receive approval as an "associate member." As such, the FVP does not have voting privileges and must request a council member bring issues before the council - in April, the FVP did so and the result was a more timely publication of the minutes and flyers for upcoming events.
Given that the FAVC meets the second Saturday and the FVP meets the fourth Sunday each month, I am posting what I regard as relevant information for awareness and possible action - in this discussion it is just information (if action wanted, please contact Mr. Charles Sulser, Chair, Membership):
- New leadership was installed at the beginning of the April meeting;
- The remainder of this meeting was dedicated to a round-table of organizational introductions. In the minutes, the FVP was listed as a "group dedicated to preserving and promoting the principles of the Founders" and "their goal in working with the FAVC is support vets in need." All in all, close enough.
- If you want more information on some of the upcoming events that were advertised at the meeting and in the minutes, please Google it (or convince Dave Van Allen to return from his sabbatical). The events include:
